Working from Home Will Reduce Miles Driven and Affect Commercial Real Estate

In previous posts I have stated that there is a very good chance mileage driven will go down due to more companies allowing their employees to work from home. 

Yesterday, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey wrote in an email to employees that the company will allow almost everyone to work from home permanently. 

  • Dorsey had said he planned to make Twitter’s workforce more “distributed” before the coronavirus pandemic, but then...those plans got pushed up. 

Office closures have forced many companies to try remote working. Google said a majority of Googlers will WFH until 2021, and Facebook will allow all employees who are able to WFH to do so even after it reopens offices after the July 4 weekend. 

And it’s not just tech: The pandemic prompted members of the button-down brigade like Morgan Stanley and Barclays to add security measures that allow employees to WFH, to generally positive results.

Urgent SCAMMER ALERT urging everyone to be on high alert for “bad actors” aiming to coerce you and your family out of their personal information in a new federal stimulus payment scam.

Scammers are using the news that the federal government will send one-time payments to millions of people across the country as part of the federal economic relief response to COVID-19 to steal personal information. 

The Attorney General has already received reports that residents are getting emails from websites appearing to be official demanding that they provide PayPal, bank account or other financial information to receive the $1200 federal stimulus payment immediately.

COVID-19 Small Business Loan Programs

On March 27th, the United States House of Representatives passed the “Coronavirus Aid, Recovery and Economic Security Act” or the “CARES Act” (Act), which previously passed the United States Senate on March 25 and was signed by the President. The Act includes a small business loan program, known as the “Paycheck Protection Program” (PPP), that makes available forgivable loans of up to $10 million during the covered period of February 15, 2020 to June 30, 2020 if the business retains its employees and otherwise meets the requirements. The Act also makes available funds for immediate grants of up to $10,000 for small businesses that have applied for SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL). Below are some key provisions of the PPP and the EIDL grant program as well as summary of the United States Treasury’s proposed middle-market direct lending program set forth in the Act.
